Australian alt-country artist Vanessa Jade emerges with fearless clarity and hard-won truth on her debut solo single - THE MORE I LIE - a striking anthem of masking, fawning, and the lifelong cost of trying to fit in. Produced by Nash Chambers (Kasey Chambers, Archie Roach, Jimmy Barnes) and recorded in Nashville, the haunting track leads Vanessa’s forthcoming debut album and signals the arrival of a powerful new voice in Australian Americana and Country music.
Steeped in raw lyricism and emotional grit, The More I Lie captures the moment Vanessa began to unravel the cost of abandoning herself in pursuit of love and belonging—an awakening that coincided with the end of her marriage and a late autism diagnosis.
“This song is a really special one to me,” says Vanessa. “It’s an anthem of sorts about reclaiming autonomy, being proud of who you are, and not trying to fit in where you don’t belong. Making friends with your little alien self and thriving without the shackles of people-pleasing. I hope those who need to hear it connect with it.”
The More I Lie", is her most vulnerable track yet, and marks a decisive shift for Vanessa Jade. It's less a pivot than a reckoning, arriving in the wake of a late-in-life autism diagnosis that reframed everything she thought she knew about herself.
Her voice is a smoky blend of vulnerability and defiance reminiscent of Frazey Ford and Phoebe Bridgers. The single features contributions from Nashville guitarist Rob McNelley (Luke Combs, Bob Seger). A cinematic yet quirky music video, directed by Thom Davies (Middle Kids, Milku), accompanies the release.
